FAQWhat is Citron?Citron is a new messaging application that is simple in use and cute in design. It is easily installed with all features you need (chat, history save and search, anti-spam filter) and no more maintenance needed. Just try and you'll see :) What systems does Citron support?Citron supports Jabber (Gtalk, LiveJournal and other jabbers) and AOL(AIM, ICQ) networks. As soon as MSN and Yahoo will be added. Can Citron be launched under Linux or Mac?Microsoft .Net 2.0 is required to run Citron. Although .net framework is available under Linux and Mac, at this moment only Windows platform is supported because we use some COM objects. What is the difference between simple setup and LAN package?Simple setup is for regular and home users. LAN package is for system administrators to simplify local network deployment. Please, read LAN installation guide for details. Citron is distributed as free software but it uses proprietary library for XMPP communication, why?Because sometimes it is difficult to find free software that would be completely satisfy your needs, and xmpp communacation is such example. The library that we use is small and very featured. We reviewed all free xmpp libraries and no one fitted our needs. Using GNU GPL software in conjunction with proprietary software does not violate GPL, although it is not greeted. You can use Citron without any limitations, but if you want to develop xmpp portion of it, you must purchase different copy of this xmpp library or rewrite it with a different library. |
